(CE) The Anatomy of a Data Breach: Assess, Secure, Respond

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Data breaches are as common as the cold, requiring an ongoing approach to minimize their frequency, size, and impact in order to protect students, staff, and the sensitive information they manage. Universities and colleges with large volumes of high-value data, credit card numbers, SSNs, medical records, and research, are particularly vulnerable to data breaches. This session will cover everything you need to know about data breaches including existing and emerging risk factors, cyber threat trends, recommended proactive efforts, and breach response best practices, including some updates to the cyber insurance. Participants will learn about leading causes of data breaches in higher education, what organizations are at the highest risk, how to manage risk and protect your assets with risk transfer techniques, and hear about lessons learned from the University of California.
Learning Objectives:
 Learn the difference between an incident and a
breach and how to respond to both.
 Understand the present data breach landscape
including leading causes, regulations and
enforcement, and how to identify areas of risk
exposure.
 Learn about the insurance coverage for this risk
 Learn how to navigate and act on the stages of a data
incident from discovery to response.
