Natural catastrophe models are just some of the tools that help underwriters manage and finance natural catastrophe risks, such as hurricanes, winter storms, flood/storm surges and earthquakes. More and more, however, these models seem to have become the only tools. This presentation will help risk managers understand the strengths and limitations of catastrophe models, how models are now being extended to help risk managers better understand their true risk, how catastrophe models are typically used by underwriters, and how risk managers can work with underwriters to ensure their risk exposures related to natural catastrophe events are being analyzed, underwritten, and priced properly.
